Sixteenth Sunday After Pentecost

Prayer of the Day

O God of all creation, who provided water in the wilderness and has provided for humanity throughout all time, we do not always do as we are asked. Grant us faith, strength, and courage to do what is asked of us, even when it is difficult. All this we ask through your Son,  Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Eucharistic Prayer

O God of wonder and might, who led the Israelites through the wilderness and caused streams to spring from rocks, you are with us always, even to the point of taking on humanity and living among us, giving us living water.

In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks, broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take and eat! This is my body, given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this in remembrance of me.

Through Christ Jesus’ death and resurrection, we are saved. As often as we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim Christ’s death until he comes again in glory.

Christ has died. Christ has risen. Christ will come again.

Send down your Holy Spirit, O Lord, upon these gifts and upon your people,  that we all may be gathered together into one pilgrim people, nourished by streams of living water, that your way may be known upon earth, and your saving power among all nations. All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you, in unity with the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.
